Generate QR CodeWhat an Instagram QR Code is and how it works
An Instagram QR Code is a code with the address of your profile written inside it. Someone points a camera — your page opens, and following takes one tap. No search, no account name read out loud, no typos in it: a pattern in a window passes a name on more accurately than a voice does.
A person points a camera at the code — in a window, on packaging, on a badge.
Your profile opens: with the app on the phone, straight inside it; without the app, the same page in a browser.
The “Follow” button stands under the name, and it is one tap away.
The one you already have in Instagram
- It is a picture off a screen. Enough for a small sticker, but not for a window or a poster: enlarged, the pattern falls apart.
- The app decides how it looks: your own colour, your own logo in the middle and your own caption in the frame cannot be put there.
- It leads to the profile — and only to the profile. Pointing it at a particular post or at a product page is not possible.
- How many times it was scanned you will never learn: the app shows no such figure.
The one that goes to print and outlives the run
- It downloads as a file: PNG for a screen, SVG and PDF for the print shop. Out of SVG they print both a fingernail-sized sticker and a banner across a whole wall.
- It is drawn in your colours, with your logo in the middle and a caption in the frame — next to your packaging it looks like one of yours rather than a stranger.
- A dynamic one leads wherever you say and changes it later: today to the profile, by spring to the new collection, while the pattern on the box stays the same.
- A dynamic one keeps a scan count in your account, day by day — it is plain at once which window is working and which is standing there for nothing.
The app does not lose this comparison — it simply has a different job. Showing a code off a screen when you meet somebody is what it is best at, and there is no sense making a second one for that. Ours is for when the pattern goes onto paper, onto glass or onto a box and has to live there for the whole run.
What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR Code?
The same pattern on paper — different options once it is printed.
- A static code is tied to its link for good, and that link cannot be changed.
- Analytics are not available for codes like this either.
- The link or the file the code leads to can be changed at any moment.
- Analytics show the number of scans, the countries and the devices.
- You can set a password, an expiry date and a limit on how many people it lets in.

A QR Code in your brand colours
Add a logo, your brand colours and the shape of the elements — and the QR Code becomes part of your design on packaging, in a menu, on a business card or in a shop window.
- Logo — upload your own file.
- Colours — set the code, the background or a gradient.
- Shape and eyes — choose the shape of the elements.
- Frame — add a caption and set the style.
- Preset — save the styling for your next QR Codes.
Where an Instagram QR Code works best
Where the person is already holding something of yours or standing in front of your window: that is the minute they are closest to following you.
A shop window and the till
The person is already with you — half the work is done: what is left is not to lose them on the way out. A sticker on the glass and a sign by the till turn a visit into a follow while they wait for the receipt. The caption “Follow us” matters more here than the pattern: without it nobody knows what is being offered.
Packaging and the card in the order
The order has arrived, the box is open — and there is a code to the profile with the new things in it. That way the buyer comes back not only to the shop but to a feed where you can be remembered between purchases.
A business card and a badge
For a photographer, a florist or a nail technician the portfolio is the profile. A code on the business card leads straight into it, and if the phone number and the email are wanted as well, beside it stands a business card QR Code.
An advert for one product
Here send the code not to the profile but straight to the product page — the one the link in the profile description leads to. The person came for a particular thing, and every extra step towards it loses some of them.
An event and a stand
A code on the counter or on the screen behind the speaker: the room follows while it listens. If the code is dynamic, after the event it is turned towards the post with the results — and the stand goes on working in the guests’ photographs.
A short check while the artwork is still on hold
Your profile should open, not a search through similar names: one extra dot in a name carries people off to somebody else’s account.
“Follow us” or “We’re on Instagram”. A bare pattern on packaging is taken for a link to a website and walked past.
If the print run will outlive more than one promotion, take a dynamic code: one pattern on the packaging will lead now to the profile, now to whatever is on offer.
One print and a camera from the distance the pattern will be seen at in the window: through glass and at an angle it reads worse than off a desk.
