File QR Code Generator

Upload a file — a document, an image, a spreadsheet, a clip or a recording — and get a QR Code that opens it. Replace the file later and the printed code stays as it is.

File QR Code

What a file QR Code is and how it works

A file QR Code is a code with your file behind it: the document, the spreadsheet, the picture, the clip or the recording is kept on our side, and the pattern holds only a short address leading straight to it. No more emailing it round and explaining where to download it from.

What you can put behind it
PDF Word Excel JPEG and PNG MP4 MP3

Other formats the service can keep are accepted too — MOV, WebP, WAV, M4A. The upload field takes them exactly as it takes the ones listed.

One QR Code It leads straight to your file. Replace the file in your account and the same code on paper opens the new one.
  1. 1Someone points a camera at the code
  2. 2The file opens right on the phone
  3. 3And is saved to it if they want
The file

Drag it into the upload field. Today’s size limit is written there, under the choose button.

An account

The file lives in your account, and the short link behind the code leads to that very file.

The styling

Colours, the shape of the dots, a frame with the caption “Download the file” and a logo in the middle if you want one.

A password, an expiry date and a scan limit

Handing a file to everybody and handing it to a chosen few are different jobs, and one code does both. A customer opens the manual with no questions asked; the dealer price list wants a password and stops at the end of the quarter.

A passwordBefore the file the person sees a short page with a field to type it into.
An expiry dateAfter the day you name, the code stops opening the file — handy for a promotion.
A scan limitThe file opens for that many people and no more: for handouts meant for one group.
Comparison

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR Code?

The same pattern on paper — different options once it is printed.

Static QR URL Analytics
  • A static code is tied to its link for good, and that link cannot be changed.
  • Analytics are not available for codes like this either.
Dynamic QR URL 1 URL 2 PDF Menu Analytics
  • The link or the file the code leads to can be changed at any moment.
  • Analytics show the number of scans, the countries and the devices.
  • You can set a password, an expiry date and a limit on how many people it lets in.

Styling

A QR Code in your brand colours

Add a logo, your brand colours and the shape of the elements — and the QR Code becomes part of your design on packaging, in a menu, on a business card or in a shop window.

What you can set in the editor above
  • Logo — upload your own file.
  • Colours — set the code, the background or a gradient.
  • Shape and eyes — choose the shape of the elements.
  • Frame — add a caption and set the style.
  • Preset — save the styling for your next QR Codes.
Where to use it

Where a file QR Code works best

Where the document is needed not now but some day later: a warranty, a specification, a price list, lecture notes.

A warranty card and a technical passport

Paper goes missing; the code on the appliance itself stays. Three years on, the owner finds the document where it was on the first day — and it is the current version, not the one printed when the batch left the factory.

A box and a pallet in the warehouse

A specification, a certificate, a delivery note. The storekeeper opens the right file on the spot instead of digging through email for it.

A dealer price list

The file is closed with a password and given a date: prices go no further than the people you showed them to.

Handouts on a course

A presentation, notes, templates — one code for the whole group. For the next intake the file is changed without reprinting the workbook.

A stand and a meeting room

The catalogue and the quotation leave with the person, in the phone rather than as a stack of paper that gets binned at the airport.

Before you print

A short check while the stickers are still unordered

Open the file from a phone

Word and Excel are often offered as a download; if the look matters, save it as PDF.

A human file name

“Warranty-2026.pdf” says more than “scan_0012.pdf”: that name is what the person sees when saving it.

A password where one is needed

A price list and internal papers are worth closing; a manual for the buyer is not.

Downloading on a slow connection

A heavy file crawls over mobile data: for a stand and for packaging, compress it beforehand.

Questions and answers

Common questions about file QR Codes

The short version of what people ask most: formats, size, replacing the file, passwords and Word documents.

No answer here? Write to us
How do I make a QR Code for a file?
Drag the file into the upload field in the generator above — documents, spreadsheets, pictures, clips and recordings are all accepted. Today’s size limit is written there, under the choose button.
Which files can I upload?
PDF, JPEG and PNG pictures, MP4 video, MP3 audio, Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
How large a file can I upload?
Look at the upload field — today’s limit is written there and depends on the plan. The heaviest are usually presentations with photographs and video inside them.
Do I need an account for a file QR Code?
Yes: the file is kept on our side and has to have an owner — otherwise there would be nobody to replace it, close it with a password or delete it.
Can I replace the file once the QR Code is printed?
Yes, and that is the whole point: the old file is swapped for a new one in your account while the code on the box carries on working.
Can the file be closed with a password?
Yes. Before the download the QR Code asks for a password on a short page — that is how dealer price lists and internal papers are handed out. The same place sets the date after which the file stops opening.
Will a Word document open on a phone?
Usually yes — the phone offers to open it in its own viewer or to save it. If the look must not change, save the document as PDF: it appears the same everywhere, and it has a PDF QR Code.
Can I see how many times the file was opened?
Yes, the scans and the dates show in your account. On a code stuck to equipment that tells you how many people got as far as the technical passport after buying.
Where does a file QR Code come in useful?
A warranty card, a manual, a price list, an equipment passport, a presentation at a stand, handouts on a course — everything that used to be printed and handed over by hand.
What do I download to print the code on a box or a warranty card?
SVG — a sticker for the box and a warranty card at the print shop both come out of it. PNG is handier when the code goes into an email or a presentation.
A clip or a recording: upload it as a file or as a page with a player?
Video and audio have types of their own — video QR Code and audio QR Code: they open a page with a player where you press play, rather than a bare file the phone may simply drop into downloads.
And what if the code has to go onto the document itself?
Then the tool you want is not this generator but putting a QR Code on your own document. The difference is this: here the code leads to the document, there it is printed straight onto it — on a warranty card next to the serial number, say. All the work happens in your browser, and neither the card nor the code goes anywhere.

Make a QR Code for your file

Upload a document, a spreadsheet, a picture or a clip in the generator above, style the code in your brand colours and download it for print — it’s free. The file can be replaced later and the code stays the same.
