Google review QR Code

What a Google review QR Code is and how it works

A Google review QR Code is a code with a link to your company’s reviews page on Google. A person points a camera — and lands straight where the stars are given and a couple of lines are written. No search, no listing to pick out of the results, no “find us and rate us, please”: the shorter the way, the more people walk it.

LEAVE A REVIEW POST
What happens after the scan
1

The customer points a camera at the sign by the till or at the sticker in the bill folder.

2

Your company’s review window opens — the very one, with the stars and the box for the text.

3

They give a rating and write a couple of lines without moving from the spot or looking for anybody.

The link to your reviews

Your Google business profile hands it out: the reviews section has a button that makes a short link of the g.page/r/… kind. Copy it and paste it into the generator field.

The kind of code

A static one leads by your link directly and is made without an account. A dynamic one goes through our short address: the link behind it can be switched later, and the scans are visible in your account.

The styling

Colour and the shape of the dots, a logo in the middle and a frame with a caption — the very request the code is hung up for: “Leave a review”, “How did we do?”.

A review is written while the impression is fresh

A week later, prompted by an email, few people agree to write: they are busy with something else and remember none of the detail. At the table, at the till, in the fitting room — while they are still pleased and the phone is in their hand — they agree far more readily. That is why a code with a request goes where the purchase ends, not where it begins.

Comparison

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR Code?

The same pattern on paper — different options once it is printed.

Static QR URL Analytics
  • A static code is tied to its link for good, and that link cannot be changed.
  • Analytics are not available for codes like this either.
Dynamic QR URL 1 URL 2 PDF Menu Analytics
  • The link or the file the code leads to can be changed at any moment.
  • Analytics show the number of scans, the countries and the devices.
  • You can set a password, an expiry date and a limit on how many people it lets in.

Styling

A QR Code in your brand colours

Add a logo, your brand colours and the shape of the elements — and the QR Code becomes part of your design on packaging, in a menu, on a business card or in a shop window.

What you can set in the editor above
  • Logo — upload your own file.
  • Colours — set the code, the background or a gradient.
  • Shape and eyes — choose the shape of the elements.
  • Frame — add a caption and set the style.
  • Preset — save the styling for your next QR Codes.
Where to use it

Where a Google review QR Code works best

Where the purchase has just ended and the person is still nearby: at the till, in the bill folder, inside the box with the order.

The bill and the folder it comes in

The guest has paid and opened the folder — and there is a request to rate the visit. The phone is already in their hand and the impression has not cooled: there is no shorter road to five stars. On the same table there often stands a menu QR Code — each with a caption of its own, and the guest cannot mix them up.

HOW DID WE DO?

The counter by the till and reception

While a customer waits for their change, a room key or a packed order, they have a free minute — and it goes into the phone. A sign on the counter turns that minute into a review.

Packaging and the card inside the order

For delivery and an online shop the review is caught at the moment of unpacking: a sticker on the box or a card inside reaches the person exactly where the pleasure of the purchase is at its peak.

An email and a mailing after the purchase

Download the PNG and put the code into the letter as a picture: off a computer screen it is taken with a phone. Beside it always put the same link in words — anyone reading the letter on a phone will not be scanning anything.

A salon, a treatment room, a fitting room

Where a person sits alone — in the chair at the stylist’s, in a fitting room, in a hotel room — a code on the mirror or on the little table collects reviews by itself, and nobody on the staff has to ask out loud.

Before you print

A short check while the request is still on hold

Open the link yourself

A window with the stars should open, not the company listing in search: from there it is two more taps to the stars, and some people are lost on the way.

Word the request

A direct question in the frame: “Leave a review”, “How did we do?”. A nameless pattern is scanned far more rarely — what is being asked is anyone’s guess.

A big run? Take a dynamic one

A second place opens or the company profile changes — the link is corrected in your account, and the stickers on the tables stay the same.

A trial sticker

Print one and point a camera from the distance people scan from at the till — standing up, not leaning over the table.

Questions and answers

Common questions about Google review QR Codes

About the link from the business profile, about whether an account is needed by you and by your guest, and about what to do once there is more than one place.

No answer here? Write to us
How do I make a QR Code for Google reviews?
Copy the link to your reviews in your Google business profile — the reviews section has a button that hands it out — paste that link into the generator field above and download the finished code.
Where do I find the link to my reviews page?
In your business profile on Google: the reviews section has a ready button that gives out a short link of the g.page/r/… kind. Copy it whole and paste it into the generator field.
Does the customer need a Google account to leave a review?
A review on Google is written from one’s own Google account — that is how Google itself is built, and there is no way round it. Anyone with an Android phone has such an account already, so a separate sign-in is usually not called for.
Do I need to sign up to make a review QR Code?
A static one is made without it: paste the link, style it, download it. A venue has one profile address and it lives for years, so a static code is what people mostly take. An account becomes useful when a second place opens and the codes on the tables have to be turned towards the neighbouring profile.
Can I change the link once the stickers are printed?
With a dynamic one, yes — the address behind it is edited in your account. A single run of stickers survives both a move and a change of name: the tables stay laid, and only what the pattern leads to changes.
How should I caption the QR Code so that it is scanned more often?
Ask a question instead of making an announcement: “How did we do?” works better than “Reviews”. The caption is written into the frame around the pattern in the editor itself — there is nothing to print separately.
Can the QR Code be made in the colours of the place?
Yes: your own colour and a gradient between colours, rounded dots, a pattern for the corners, a logo in the middle. For a table sign take a dark pattern on a light background — in the evening, under warm lamps, that combination reads more surely than any other.
What size should a review QR Code be printed?
On a bill and on a table sign a couple of centimetres is enough: those are picked up in the hand. For a sticker on the door or in the window print it larger — those are scanned from a step or two away, and sometimes through glass.
Can I see how many people went through to leave a review?
With a dynamic one your account shows the scan count day by day — those are the people who reached the review window. Which of them actually gave stars only Google knows: that figure lies in the business profile and never reaches us.
What should I give the print shop?
SVG: from one file they print both a sticker the size of a fingernail and a sign for the door, and nothing goes soft. PNG is useful for an email and for a post, PDF if the print shop asks for ready artwork.
Can I collect reviews somewhere other than Google?
The field takes any address, so the code will just as happily open a reviews page on a map, on a booking site or on your own website. Do check that it opens without signing in: where people are asked to register first, reviews are hardly ever written.
Can one QR Code do both the reviews and the menu?
Better two: each has its own minute. The menu is looked at when the visit starts, the review is written when it ends, and the captions under the codes differ too. The menu is opened by a menu QR Code, and on one table sign the two do not get in each other’s way.

Collect reviews while the guest is still with you

Paste the link to your reviews into the generator above, caption the frame with a direct question and download the code for print — it’s free. After that it works by itself: the guest has paid — and is already giving stars.
